The Jungian Lexicon-I

Identification-The Fusion of Subject and Object.

Image-In Latin is called the Imago. In the beginning was the word but also God made Man in his image. The Image is fundamental to the process of the Psyche and it’s digestion of experience. We all have a subjective ideal that we project on to the world and that ideal comes in the form of the Image. The Image gives shape or form to the energy. The image is a complex with the Archetype as it’s center. Almost everything begins and ends with an image. As we said earlier we already have an inherent Archetypal Image of things like the Image of God, the Great Mother Image, the Image of the Hero etc. When we chant a mantra it makes an image in the psyche. When we smell an essential oil it makes another image. These images constellate and order our Psyche. The Image is a Visual Representation of Energy or Emotion. Complexes are a distortion of that representation of the Image.

Imago-Another word for Image.

Individual-Someone who is incapable of being divided and is Psychologically whole. The uniqueness that is apart from the collective but not opposed to it.

Individuation & Kundalini-

Kundalini is the uncoiling of your essential consciousness, your creative
potential, the energy of the soul itself. Literal it means “the curl I the lock of the hair of the beloved.” Individuation is the procedure of being Individuated is a Psychic development of differentiation (attitudes and functions) and maturation of subjective and objective content, where one becomes into an Individual. That is to say becoming an Indivisible Psychologically Whole Personality and becoming who you really are or
always was. A latent and hidden personality surfacing which is similar to the raising of the Kundalini. Individuation is always in a state of becoming and we never quite reach a final stage. Working and discriminating parts of your self is part of Spirituality and lays a good foundation for times of turbulence. The main purpose of becoming Individuated or Raising the Kundalini would be to connect and integrate the Self.

Inflation- Archetypes can inflate the Psyche. Identifying with something
impersonal in the Psyche, such as with the Persona. Having a puffed up Psyche or enlargement of the Personality. Can result in Spiritual or Self Grandiosity.

Inferior function-The most undifferentiated and unconscious of the Four
Functions. Devilish quality to the Inferior Function in the sense that it does not adapt well and is unconscious or autonomous. Is related to the Shadow and Dark Side of the personality.

Inner World-Moving towards or in reference to the Subject which includes Ideas, Images, Fantasies or Dreams to name a few. Essentially the Spiritual world or Subjective Reality.

Intellect-Active and Directed or Purposive Thinking

Introjection-A process of Extraversion in which there is an assimilation of object
to subject.

Introversion-Yin part of a yin/yang dynamic movement of Energy. Introversion is a Centripetal process by which the libido or psychic energy consolidates around the subject and withdraws from the object. Introversion is Psychic Energy seeking the center and conserving or restoring. There is a singularity to Introversion and simplicity. Introverted people can seen as being “selfish” and solitary and of Individualistic nature. The Subject gains ascendency and is primary, where as the object becomes secondary, therefore there is a low value and negative relationship to the object and interest in the internal world of ideas and images. Eastern Culture values and rewards Introversion. Introversion is tends to be hesitant due to the conservation of energy cloaked by negative
emotion surrounded by the survival of the organism by a withdrawing and defensive position. There is often a reflect first, act later that results in 1 step back, 2 steps forward motif seen in Introverted peoples. Active or Conscious Introversion is motivation from an inner need and the Person’s Psychic Energy is retreating from the outer world into the inner world by means of contemplation of ideas, images, fantasies and the inner object. The person whose psychic energy habitually flows in this manner is noticed as an Introverted Type or someone with a predominantly Introverted attitude in Consciousness. Now the Active and Conscious Introversion becomes Enantodromian and turns into a Passive and Unconscious Extraversion where the world forces them to participate in an involuntary extraversion by getting a job, taking care of objects like a car or
house and paying taxes. These material things or the material world in general is devalued very much in the East where leave everything up to the Divine. Like Extraversion, in itself Introversion is not a bad thing, it is one part of a dual function. Projection has to do with Introversion because we dissimilate the object from the subject. Most yogis, artists, writers, actors and musicians are or have introverted tendencies. The whole process of Yoga is a process of Introversion. Introversion can roughly can be mapped on to the process of Tamas in the sense that Energy is being conserved and moving towards the unconscious. Psychic Wholeness & Reconciling the opposites of Extraversion & Introversion would be loosely mapped over to the Concept of Sattva or Balance. Males tend to test out as more Introverted and Female’s extraverted oddly enough.

Instinct-Autonomous in-born drives that overwhelm the Ego. There are 5 basic instincts, Hunger, Sex, Activity, Creativity and Reflection. Although related to Archetypes, they don’t have the same numinous quality.

Intuition- Irrational & Perceptive Function of the Psyche. Operates via
perception through or of the Unconscious. Can be a subjective process where Images, Insights and Inspirations Irrationally appear to come out of nowhere to the Individual by Imagination that is not related to Physical Reality or the 5 Senses. Intuition makes leaps of insight often perceiving into the future and what is developing but also into the past to where it is coming from. Therefore it is the function of seeing the potential or possibilities. Intuition sees the background or what is behind the scenes but often misses what is in the foreground or present. Often ideal or ungrounded and is concerned with associative connections and the symbolic meaning or idea of something. Roughly can be mapped to the
process of Moksa because of letting go of conscious effort and relaxing into the unconscious realities that were invisible to consciousness.

Invasion-Flood of Emotion or Psychically charged content from the unconscious. In extreme cases Psychosis results due to the inability to contain the invasion.

Irrational Perceptive Functions-Sensation and Intuition where life appears to “just happen” and there is a certitude to these functions. The sensate knows what is and the intuitive knows what is possible.
