The Jungian Lexicon-D

Differentiation-The development and separation of the Psychological Functions in Consciousness. Thinking and Feeling are one Polarity as are Sensing and Intuition. All these functions when undifferentiated can merged with each other and failure to adaptation ensues which leads to neurosis. When undifferentiated it remains in a primitive and immature state that can be chaotic and undirected where as the differentiated function is able to direct itself with out the help of another function.

Dissociation-When Psychic Content of the Personality is split off. The Psychic content loses energic value and is repressed to which it sinks into the personal unconscious and forms into complexes. It is usually what is deemed unacceptable by society is what is dissociated, along with moral content and relations with the same gender that become Shadow aspect of the personality. Those contents related to opposite gender become the Anima/Animus functions. Those contents that remain in the threshold of consciousness form the Persona which is what is seen as acceptable by society.

Dreams- Dreams are considered to be language of the Soul. The Iroquois
(located in the now Syracuse area) took the dreams seriously.
Dreams can carry spiritual messages for us to become Conscious of. The dream compensate one sided view of waking Consciousness as stated earlier. The Unconscious exaggerates everything to the opposite standpoint to balance it. Dreams have a greater wisdom and a guiding function. They can show us something we don’t know or are aware of in Consciousness. Dream can show the complexes, typology and images of the Shadow, Anima and the Self. It is equally as likely that through the process of Synchronicity that a Dream Figure is become aware of you as much as you are becoming aware of a Dream figure. The dream is like an drama stage with actors and a story, except you are playing all the roles. Every figure is some part of yourself. Anthony Stevens says that dream become the water of life to which without them nurturing our Psyche, we are like a desert without water. There are 3 types of dreams. The first is compensatory and the other two are reductive and prospective. Reductive dreams show a type of regression in Personality and prospective a progression or some aspect of the future that may be result in an outer event. I am reminded of some Hindu artwork and the saying that this whole Universe is the “Dream of
Visnu” and Visnu is God to the Hindus. So, do you think dreams are important?
