The Jungian Lexicon-A

Active Imagination-Corresponds to Tapas in the sense of relieving pressure
from the Unconscious and burning up contamination of the Psyche. Is a process of assimilating Unconscious material into the Conscious Mind. Essentially an intentional dreaming while awake. Images appear that are different parts of your personality and you don’t try to judge them. You try to engage with these images by asking questions like who are? Where are you located? And wait for a reply which is to remain uninfluenced by Ego bias. This is done to gain a perspective on how that part of your personality is operating.

Abstraction-Essentially being “Removed” or having a “Detached” view from something. Introversion is related to abstraction because it is removing psychic energy from the object. There is a dissimilation, devaluation or liberating quality from unnecessary content which leads to projection.

Adaptation-Coming to terms with the situation or environment in the most
optimal way.

Affect (Emotion)-It is an empirical display of a “Complex” by the arousal or
innervation of emotion felt in the body that may be triggered by the sight of a certain person, the utterance of a particular word, a bad dream or anything of the sort. We have to make the distinction between the Feeling Function and Affect (Emotion). Feeling is an Energic Value that is attached to Emotion but is not Emotion in itself. Affect can also be seen as the frustration of the Divine not being able to Incarnate in our Psyche properly because we usually can’t contain the energy or our Image of it is distorted. When psychological energy (Libido) floods through the complex (structure), the complex is activated and seen as Affect.

Aion/Age-Span of time that is corresponding with Astrological Ages.

Analgesic-a substance that relieves or reduces pain.

Anima-The Inner Woman or Feminine in the Male Psyche first formed by the Mother which is the Maternal Eros. Relates to Shakti or the Kundalini Serpent. In Images of Shiva, he has a serpent wrapped around his neck and also riding a cow (Symbol for the Great Mother/Feminine) showing that he is integrated his Anima or his Unconscious counterpart to make a coniunctio. In Chinese thinking the Anima relates to Po or White Spirit and the Feminine.

Animus-The Inner Man or Masculine in the Female Psyche first formed by the Father which is the Paternal Logos. Relates to Shiva. In Images of Shakti or Durga is shown riding on a Lion to which shows her conquering her Animus her Unconscious counterpart to make a coniunctio. In Chinese thinking the Animus relates to Hun or the Creative Spirit and the Masculine.

Anima/Animus (Shiva/Shakti)-Relational structures or complexes of the
Personality in dialogue with the Persona that deal with the adaptation to the inner world. Anima and Animus mean Soul and Spirit in Latin but in Jungian terminology they are considered to be the Soul Image in the personality. They are a contra sexual image that is usually formed by how we were mirrored by our Mother or Father. Biologically, Males tend to identify Consciously with the Masculine part of their DNA and bring that Psychological Foreground into the Persona in which the Female Genes fall into the background of the Personal Unconscious and thus the Anima appears. The reverse is true for the Female. The Anima is related to the Image of the Kundalini Serpent/Mother Goddess that is being raised to Consciousness. This concept was developed or recognized by predominantly Masculine intellects for the Image of the Feminine Anima Shakti aspect in a Man. Perhaps a different image might be used for the Kundalini for the Woman for her Masculine Animus Shiva aspect such as is the Lion that Durga rides on. The main function of the Anima/Animus complex is to be a Psychopomp or serve as guide to the Individual to the self. Is seen as people of opposite gender in dreams and is located in the Personal Unconscious. Often someone of the opposite gender is a projection carrier of our Soul-Image which is why we have the numinous experience of falling in love.

Antidepressant-a substance that relieves
Depression.

Anti-inflammatory-a substance that soothes
and reduces inflammations.

Antispasmodic-a substance that relieves
smooth/skeletal muscle spasms.

Archiac (Primitive) Mind-The whole Psychic History of all Mankind is
embedded in the Collective Unconscious. Often referred to as the primitive
mentality, related to the Indian concept of “Samskara” which is a something like a “Psychic Heredity” that is inherited from the species and ordered by the Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious.

Archetype-“Arche-Typos” which means original or primordial pattern. The
Archetype or Spirit incarnates into the Psyche to which a degree of affect is
experienced. As Autonomous Complexes that Incarnate into the Psyche and they have a Collective and Impersonal nature. They are unknowable and inaccessible at their core. They can only be known by their manifestations which usually come through the image. They contain energy like the complex because they are the core of the complex. They are an A-Prior, Pre-Existing or Pre-Disposition of Patterned behavior that is Ordering or Constellating much like the Samskara idea of Hindu Philosophy of inherited and embedded Impressions in the Mind. Archetypes are the deep unconscious structure of the Psyche that are similar to Instincts. The Archetype has a transgressivity to it’s nature because it crosses
over boundaries from Psyche and Body, so they are Psychoid (Psyche-Like or Quasi-Psyche) and can lie outside the Psyche. They are the Psychic Organs and from the Psyche’s standpoint Archetypes are the same as Spirit or Spirits. The difference between Instincts and Archetypes is that Archetypes have a Numinous quality where as Instincts are more or less basic human drives. This can be seen on as one polarity spectrum where Instincts are Infrared and Physiological dealing more with the body, symptomatic and perceptive and the Archetypes at the Ultraviolet spectrum which is Psychological consisting of Spirit, Images, Concepts and Dreams. Anthony Stevens describes the Archetypes as Dry river beds that contain no water but when it rains with psychic energy or libido flows through the psyche, the archetypes determine the direction of that flow. They are
like magnetic fields that constellate and make unconscious arrangements with magnetizable objects which are the complexes. The simplest Archetype is the Number.

Archetypal image-The Visual Representation of the Archetype seen in Religious or Spiritual traditions as well as Fairy Tales and Mythology.

The Archetypal Self/God Image-The core of the Ego Complex and the
Central or Governing Archetype of Order that constellates all other Archetypes. The Self concept is closest to what we might call God in as far as our Psyche is concerned. The often used statement of the Self or God’s center is everywhere and circumference nowhere. This is a shock to the Ego when it learns it is not the center but that it revolves around another called the Self. By Parthogenesis the Self fragments into in different parts or Archetypes to which we experience our “Self” in different forms. The Self is the Dream Maker and every character in our dream is our Self or some part of our Personality. The Dream Maker is always taking you somewhere from the complexes and is concerned for your growth and development. The God Image, The Imago Dei in Christian Spirituality is an Image of the Self. In dreams the Self can be represented by Mountains, Cityscapes or High Authority figures like Kings, Gurus etc.

Attitude-Immediate readiness of energy that consciousness takes a position
towards, whether it is the inner or outer world. A mode of adaptation. When one speaks of an Introvert or Extravert they are referring to their attitude or primary position in consciousness. Extravert and Introverts are attitudinal types. The Extravert’s main position of concern is with the outer world and the Introvert is with the inner world. Vert in German for Intro/Extravert means Value. So for the Introvert, the value is Inside (Intro) and Outside (Extra) for the Extravert.

Autonomous-Independent and not able to be controlled by the Ego. Appears to take on a Will or Mind of it’s own. The Self, The Unconscious, Spirit/Archetypes, Complexes and Instincts are Autonomous and can overwhelm Consciousness.

Auxiliary function-Secondary function that is partly in Consciousness and
assists the Superior Function in Orientation. Always is of opposite quality to the Superior Function. If the Superior Function is a Judging function (Feeling or Thinking) then the Auxiliary must be a Perceptive Function (Intuition or Sensing) and vice versa. The other end of the Auxiliary pole is the Third or Tertiary Function which is more unconscious than conscious and assists the Inferior Function as the counter Personality.
