Samadhi-
Pronunciation-Sah-Ma-D’ee
Syllables-3 (Sa-Ma-Dhi)
Other names or spellings-
Definition-The eighth limb of Yoga is called Samadhi. It refers to
absorption and realization/enlightenment to spirit. Part of the trinity of
Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi which is called Samyama. According
to the book “How to Know God,” Concentration=12 seconds,
Meditation=2 mintues 24 seconds of uninterrupted concentration,
Lower Samadhi=28 minutes 48 seconds of uninterrupted
concentration and Higher Samadhi=5 hours 45 minutes and 36
minutes of uninterrupted concentration (How to Know God pg.125). It
is a state of Sacred Time (Acausal). Samadhi is an extremely
concentrated state. In Samadhi, you are not breathing, you’re living
purely on the Maha Prana of the Universe and the prana of the cells.
Samadhi is the Mokshic state of liberation where one is merging of
the unconscious with the conscious in absorption into God. The Ego
is merged with the Self. Liberation happens in the mind. The word
“Sama” translates to equal, same, or balanced, “Dhi” refers to
intelligence, mind etc. The goal is to achieve a sameness with the
object (Prakrti) of cognition/concentration. However, this is a clear
perception and sameness with the object. There is a range of degree
in objects from gross to subtle. Savitarka is mixed awareness of the
gross or external object, unmixed is nirvitarka. Savicara is the mixed
awareness of the subtle or inner object, and Nirvicara is the unmixed
awareness. All these types of samadhis still have a seed potential to
create karma because “objects” are the realm of Prakriti, the infinite
and multiplicity principle of creation. The highest samadhi is
Nirvakalpa Samadhi. In this state we are one with Brahman. This
state is a paradoxical one, as it is personal experience of the
impersonal bliss. All duality, karma, samskaras fall to the way side.
Once you have reached Nirvakalpa, it stops being ephemeral and
becomes eternal in having a continual contact with the numinosum.
However, despite your baggage being dropped, Prakriti, the Gods,
and objects of the external world don’t lose their reality. You just
know that there is an ultimate reality (Brahman) behind them, even
though they, themselves can lead you to it.
Samadhis
Definition-The eighth limb of Yoga is called Samadhi. It refers to
absorption. Part of the trinity of Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi which
is called Samyama. There are many mini samadhis and the biggest
one is Nirvakalpa Samadhi. My notes-Savitarka=Lowest samadhi of
the gross object i.e. extraversion, it has mixed consciousness, which
means it is tied up the contamination of the unconscious and
projections and the categories of the ego. Nirvitarka is the higher
samadhi of the gross object, or the highest quality of Extraversion
with unmixed consciousness, which perhaps knowing the emotion,
symbol, the meaning of the archetype. The highest principle of Eros.
Savicara is the lower samadhi with the subtle object, which is lower
Introversion, identifying dream figures, archetypes and functions, with
mixed consciousness, Nirvicara Samadhi is unmixed consciousness
of the subtle object, so perhaps knowing the emotion, meaning of the
symbol in the unconscious and is the highest form of Introversion.
Studying dreams and mythology is preparation for the ultimate union
of the Ego-Self axis, which is the samadhi with Brahman in
Nirvakalpa Samadhi.
