Quaternity- The main focus of a Quaternity is the center and the idea of
wholeness which has a system of dividing things into Four. It involves squaring a circle, like with what we see in the Mandala. The Square is representative of the Body or Earth and the 4 seasons, the Circle is that of the Spirit or of Heaven, something complete yet dynamic. The four Psychological functions are a Quarternity with the Self at the Center.
Quaternity & the Irrational Third Thing-Set of Four that signifies wholeness. Usually seen in Mandala structure. The Fourth thing is often the missing piece of the third thing which was originally the result of the collision and union of the two. Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching says: The Tao produced One; One produced Two; Two produced Three; Three produced All things (Which is the 4th thing). The same thing occurs in the Axiom of Maria in an Alchemy precept from Maria Prophetissa who likely had no idea about Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching. She says & One becomes two, two becomes three, and out of the third comes the one as the fourth.& Marie-Louise von Franz gives an alternative version thus: & Out of the
One comes Two, out of Two comes Three, and from the Third comes the One as the Fourth [2]
