The Jungian Lexicon-E

Ego-It is the same as the word “I” in Latin. The Ego is point of reference for
experience. It is a tool the Psyche can use for being aware of things. The Ego is an Identity Structure or Complex that is center of Consciousness but the center of the Whole Psyche. In doing Active Imagination I have experienced this my self where my Ego would wrestle with unwanted images and try to replace them with other images that wouldn’t disturb my Psyche. One of the reasons the Ego is related to the Hero Archetype or Hero Function in the Personality because it protects you by identifying with an image of your self and also makes distinctions between images of the I and not I. Biologically the Ego allows food to be assimilated and eliminated by decided what it can identify as it part of itself and what it can not. The Ego is a place of Intelligence and Morality because you have to be aware to be moral. The Ego is a functional complex whose Archetypal core is the Self. A good allegory for this is between Christ (Ego/Hero) who’s Archetypal/Spiritual core is God (The Self) has to be Sacrificed in order to save the Kingdom (The Whole Personality). The Ego can be seen as a flashlight that you can shine into areas and is associated with light because it is associated with consciousness. It is also connected to your will. The Ego has an Individual nature as opposed to the collectivity of the persona and unconscious. Buddhist are Ego-Less. Ego is directly correlated to the term Ahangkara.

Ectomorph-Thinner Build. Corresponds to the Vata Constitutional Body Type of Ayurveda.

Ectopsyche-Things outside the Psyche

Emotion- Energy in Motion, is a Psychogalvanic reaction to a complex that
manifests in autonomous physiological innervation. Also the Spirit or Archetype’s attempt to embody itself.

Empathy-Going into and feeling one’s self into the object. Related to
Extraversion. There is an assimilation, rapport and attachment to the object that leads to introjection.

Enantiodromia-When something turns into its opposite. Introversion becomes Extraversion, Cold becomes Hot, etc..

Endomorph-Heavier Build. Corresponds to the Kapha Constitutional Body Type of Ayurveda.

Endopsyche-Things within the Psyche

Energic (Psychic Value), Tension & Polarity-Energic is a different term for
Energy in the sense that is Psychic as opposed to Physical. The concept of
Energy can be seen as something like a “current.” A current insists that
something is being pulled towards one end of a spectrum to which there must be at least two points in the spectrum. This creates a tension of opposites and means that Energy needs to flow between a Polarity in order to exist. The whole premise of the Psyche is based on Antithetical concepts. Although there is two points it is still “one pole” that is the between Conscious and Unconscious. Psychic phenomena or content that has a high energic value intensity attached to it will be able to reach Consciousness and a low value content falls into the Unconscious. Meaning we become awake to it in Consciousness to which it doesn’t disappear in the Unconscious, but we merely suppress, repress, become asleep or unaware of it in the Unconscious.

Eros-The concept of Relatedness, Connection and Intimacy that is not directly sexual but the cause of sexuality. Autoerotic can be relating to one’s self. Homoerotic to one’s own gender etc. Eros is can be said to be Feminine or Lunar Consciousness.

Extraversion-Yang part of a yin/yang dynamic movement of Energy.
Extraversion is Centrifugal Process by which the libido or psychic energy leaves the subject and flows outward towards the object. Extraversion is Psychic Energy fleeing the center and dispersing or radiating. There is a sense of Multiplicity in Extraversion and complexity. Extraverted people can seen as being “selfless” and social or of service with a collective nature to them. The Object gains ascendency and is primary, where as the subject becomes secondary, therefore there is a high value and positive relationship to the object and interest in the external world of things. Western Culture values and rewards Extraversion. Extraversion is tends to be impulsive due to the surplus of energy backed by positive emotion that leads to the survival of the organism by an acquisitive and aggressive approach. There is often act first, reflect later that results in 1 step
forward, 2 steps back motif seen in Extraverted peoples. Active or Conscious Extraversion is characterized by outer needs and the Person’s Psychic Energy is initiating in the external world towards the outer object like people, work, cars, houses etc. The person whose psychic energy habitually flows in this manner is recognized as an Extraverted Type or someone with a predominantly Extraverted attitude in Consciousness. Now the Active and Conscious Extraversion becomes Enantodromian and turns into a Passive and Unconscious Introversion where extreme energy expenditure in the world forces them to crash into an involuntary
introversion of rest and restoration. This collapse is seen very much in the West where people are over-stimulated and over-worked. Introjection has to do with Extraversion because we try to assimilate the object to the subject. In itself, Extraversion is not a bad thing, it is one part of a dual function. We get up everyday and extravert when we go to work or buy groceries and everyone introverts when they go to sleep and dream or do yoga. Most business men, caretakers, entertainers have an Extraverted nature. Extraversion can roughly can be mapped on to the process of Rajas in the sense that Rajas is a concept where energy is being dispersed and moving towards the conscious world. Psychic Wholeness & Reconciling the opposites of Extraversion & Introversion would be loosely mapped over to the Concept of Sattva or Balance. Western culture is heavily lop-sided in Extraversion. The most Introverted person in the West still might look like an Extravert to the East. Introversion-Yin part of a yin/yang dynamic movement.
